At the Office of James Gibbs AIA Architect we listen, imagine, and create.
We involve our clients in all phases of a project – from planning to design and construction. The end result is an aesthetically appealing, cost effective and functional design that reflects the aspirations of the people for whom it is designed.

The Office of James Gibbs AIA Architect offers personalized services in architecture, site planning, interior design and historic preservation. We are a small firm located in historic Mystic Village in the Town of Stonington, Connecticut.
Our extended network of affiliated design professionals includes interior designers, engineers, planners and construction specialists. We currently maintain licenses to practice architecture in eight states.
Our office takes pride in its interactive, client-centered approach that involves the client in all phases of a project. We do not follow a prescribed stylistic approach. Instead, our design work runs the gamut from traditional and classical to modern. This approach to appropriate design fosters a unique reflection of our clients' program, in consideration of site, sustainability, budget and, frequently, historic context.
In addition to our traditional base of architectural clients, we offer extended expertise in historic preservation planning to both the private and public sectors. At the state and municipal levels, we have completed historic district commission manuals, historic district design guidelines, historic resources surveys, and National Register nominations. For our private clients, we have completed feasibility studies, historic structure reports and historic rehabilitation tax credit applications. Our historic rehabilitation tax credit expertise includes the federal IRS program, and state programs in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island.
We also proud to represent Linda Chase, one of this nation's most recognized Interior Designers. Ms. Chase's recent work includes numerous projects in both the New York City and Los Angeles metro areas. A recent collaboration of the Office of James Gibbs AIA Architect and Linda Chase Associates included the complete renovation of a luxurious condominium in the historic Plaza Hotel on Central Park. Ms. Chase is available for all our custom residential, corporate and hospitality clients.
